For those in a rush to get on with the weekend, you can also stop by before Ander’s presentation to share your ideas and help up put together a proposal for a winter cycling “priority” network for Winnipeg.

Anders’ presentation will be a “dry run” of a presentation he will give a week later for an international gathering of experts in Montreal as part of the Winter Cycling Congress. Your feedback and critique will be most welcome. The presentation intends to cover the high-level framework governing a bike-friendly winter city. He will delve specifically into the work he did winter design/maintenance guidelines for Stantec and the City of Calgary’s new downtown cycle track network (which famously had its 1,000,000th trip and became permanent just recently).
Ander’s talk will cover specific maintenance best practices, policy steps and communications strategies needed to provide a well-maintained winter cycling network. Aspects of design targeted to walking and the benefits to people in wheelchairs will also be covered. and prep the attendees to provide helpful feedback while picking “routes” for Winnipeg’s “priority” network.

Consultant, Secretary Winter Cycling Federation
Well-known for his advocacy work championing the creation of an all-ages-and-abilities cycling network in Winnipeg, Anders also does some innovative work as a consultant. A couple of his specialties include international policy and design best practices in winter. He is the Secretary of the Finnish-based Winter Cycling Federation which is holding its annual Congress in Montreal, and, along with like-minded people helped found and runs what is now international Winter Bike to Work Day on February 10th.
