This was supposed to be the North East ride of our Bike to the Future series this year, but we had to cancel because of unsafe air quality. Let that sink in.
These rides are meant to raise awareness about the climate crisis, yet the crisis itself has shut us down twice this year. If the air isn’t even safe to bike in, how can we keep ignoring the need for urgent change?
Since we won’t be riding together, let’s use this time to demand action. Email your city council and ask:
What are they doing to reduce car dependency and make walking, biking, and transit the easiest choices?
How are they reallocating road space from cars to people and sustainable transport?
What concrete steps are they taking to fight climate change and improve air quality?
The irony is painful: A bike event about the climate crisis was canceled by the climate crisis. We can’t afford more delays—our leaders must act now.
