We’ve all been there. You make the case for better bike infrastructure, and the response is the same every time: ‘How many people are actually riding bikes?’ or ‘Show us the proof that anyone wants this.’
Anecdotes won’t cut it. They want hard numbers.
That’s exactly why the annual Pedal Poll exists. Organized by Velo Canada, it’s simple but powerful: volunteers hit the streets on specific days and count every single bike that passes. No guesses. No gut feelings. Just real, local, repeatable data.
Because when decision-makers demand proof, we don’t just point out the window. We hand them a Pedal Poll report, and let the people on bikes speak for themselves.
Pick a shift (or two!) from June 2-7 and join thousands of volunteers across Canada as we capture a snapshot of the state of cycling in our communities.
For 2026, Bike Winnipeg has updated the local inventory of count locations to gain data in more areas of the city.
