Our friends at the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and Exchange District BIZ have launched a great new program that we wanted to let you know about. The Bike Friendly Business Network recognizes that cyclists are important customers that benefit local businesses, and offers cyclists rewards for patronizing bike friendly businesses.
Bikes Mean Business
It turns out that all that money cyclists save on transportation when they choose to leave their cars at home and bike to their destinations leaves them with lots of extra disposable income, and that they tend to direct that extra disposable income towards local businesses that create investment and jobs right here in Winnipeg! In fact, research has shown that cyclists spend more money and visit local businesses more frequently than other types of commuters. So it only makes sense for our local businesses to reward cyclists for their decision to bike to their destinations.

A Bike Friendly Business is one that openly supports and promotes cycling. If you see the Bike Friendly Business Decal in the window of one of the 19 participants throughout Downtown and the Exchange District, you can be assured that business has adequate bike parking available, cycling maps, a bike pump and loaner locks for borrowing while you’re there. Pretty great stuff! Let’s show we appreciate the effort b supporting Winnipeg’s Bike Friendly Business’s, and when you visit a bike friendly business, don’t forget to thank them for rewarding cyclists.
