Climate Advocacy

In the wake of a devastating wildfire season and severe drought, Bike Winnipeg stands with a broad coalition of over two dozen organizations calling on the Manitoba government to significantly increase investments in climate solutions in its upcoming budget.
As a signatory to a letter presented at the legislature on Thursday, Bike Winnipegemphasizes the urgent need for the spring budget to prioritize public and active transportation. We argue that investing in safe, connected cycling infrastructure is not only a public health and economic imperative but a core climate solution that reduces emissions, cleans our air, and builds resilient communities.
“Manitoba is facing some of the worst climate impacts we’ve ever seen, from wildfires to droughts straining our hydro system,” said Laura Cameron, Director of Manitoba’s Climate Action Team, at the event. “We know these impacts will only worsen the longer we delay transitioning off fossil fuels.”
Bike Winnipeg contends that enabling more Manitobans to choose cycling for daily trips is a critical and cost-effective part of this necessary transition. We urge the Province to step up its investments in proven climate solutions, with dedicated funding for active transportation networks as a key pillar of its climate strategy.
